The latest project of Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins is Snowbird, a collaboration with American singer/songwriter Stephanie Dosen. The two first met in 2006 when Raymonde heard Dosen’s music and ended up working together on Dosen’s 2007 album A Lily for the Spectre. In 2009 the two formed the duo Snowbird.
Now at last, their debut album Moon will be released on January on the Bella Union label. The album artwork is by Vaughan Oliver, whose exquisite work has graced many 4AD albums, including Cocteau Twins.

Simon Raymonde said in a press release: “It would be a little odd if it didn’t remind people of Cocteau Twins.”
Contributing artists to the new album include Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway, Midlake’s Eric Pulido and McKenzie Smith, Lanterns on the Lake’s Paul Gregory, and Bella Union label mate Jonathan Wilson. Raymonde said of the album’s contributors, “Having them add their magic to the record was a thrill, but really, I think this is very much Stephanie’s record. She’s a really special singer and I feel the simplicity of my music was the perfect backdrop for her stories and her incredible vocal arrangements.”
The album’s title also refers to how the songs were written. “I wrote every piece of music at night, in semi-darkness so that the space didn’t feel like my living room. The moon was very important for the light it reflected,” said Raymonde.
